-MONTHLY READING CALENDAR- Reading is something I am very passionate about and I feel very strongly about sharing that love with my students. Part of helping them become the best readers they can be is having them practice as often as possible. In class, our reading block is an hour and a half, but I also ask that students read at home each night Monday-Friday. We will start the year at 15 minutes then gradually build up to 30 minutes. Each month, students will receive a new reading calendar. For every night students read, they will write the title of their book and minutes read in the box for that day. As parents, your job is simple: each night, please initial in the box next to the book title and minutes read. This shows me that you saw your child reading and can validate his/her calendar.
I participate in the Pizza Hut Book It program, so from October-March, students who meet or exceed their monthly minutes goal will receive a coupon for a free individual pizza. At the end of the school year, those students who met their minutes goal and turned in their logs every month will be entered in a drawing to win one of three summer prize baskets!
